I love public engagement. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of the job. Since 2012, I have given workshops, school visits, and talks at schools in Bristol, Leicestershire, and Devon as an Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Ambassador.
I’m a Scientist, get me out of here!
The highlight of my STEM work was winning the national competition: ‘I’m a Scientist, get me out of here!’, where you interact directly with secondary school age pupils through live web chat and by answering message board posts. This is all followed by a series of votes and progressive eliminations. I finished 1st in a group covering science focusing on the theme of evolution and won a £500 prize.
